Eleven Mile State Park in Park County, Colorado, was established in 1970 around Eleven Mile Reservoir, a high-elevation impoundment on the South Platte River. The reservoir was created by Eleven Mile Dam, completed in 1932 by Denver Water to store municipal water for Denver. Covering thousands of acres, the park became known for boating, camping, hiking, bicycling, and especially fishing, with trout, northern pike, and a noted kokanee salmon population at the Dream Stream along the reservoir’s north side. Its open setting brings frequent afternoon winds, and the surrounding area supports varied wildlife. Nearby Elevenmile Canyon adds another recreation area with remnants of the old Midland Railway.
