Harris Beach State Park on Oregon’s southern coast, just north of Brookings along U.S. Highway 101, combines developed recreation with significant coastal habitat. The park includes a day-use area with picnic tables and restrooms, plus a year-round campground with RV sites, yurts, and tent sites. Just offshore, Bird Island, also called Goat Island, is reported to be the largest island off the Oregon Coast and is protected as a National Wildlife Refuge. It is an important breeding site for rare seabirds, including tufted puffins. On land, the park also supports Helocarpon lesdainii, a lichen-forming fungus found on Sitka spruce trees.
