Maka Yusota, also called Boiling Springs, is a sacred spring in Savage, Minnesota, honored by the Dakota people. The spring consists of a pool above an artesian well that remains unfrozen year-round. Its unusual look comes from a thick layer of fine sand at the bottom of the pool. That sand holds the spring water and releases it in bursts, producing the effect of boiling water and giving the place its well-known character.
