Sewell Mountain is a summit in Fayette County, West Virginia, rising to 3,212 feet and ranking as the 276th highest summit in the state. Its name is said to honor Stephen Sewell, a local pioneer. Place-name historian Kenny wrote that Sewell was killed by Native Americans in September 1776 near Jackson's River in what is now Virginia, connecting the mountain's name to the violent frontier history of the late eighteenth century.
