William Hayden English (1822-1896) was a politician, banker, and historian who served as secretary of the 1850 Indiana Constitutional Convention, as Speaker of the Indiana House, and in the U.S. House. He was the candidate for U.S. Vice President in 1880, served as president of the Indiana Historical Society, and had the town of English named for him.
