Women and men of the Ute Indian Tribe served in the Armed Forces of the United States, including during times when they were not considered citizens of the country. They served with duty, honor, and distinction, bringing credit to themselves and their people while protecting their country against enemies foreign and domestic. Their service reflected an understanding of defending their own land and of fighting for life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. That same concept and commitment to serve their country and their people continues, grounded in a view of the warrior as one who sacrifices for the good of others and cares for the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all the children, the future of humanity.
