Jim Hogg County was formed from Brooks and Duval counties, created on March 31, 1913, and organized on August 11, 1913. It was named in honor of James Stephen Hogg, who lived from 1851 to 1906, the first native Texan to serve as governor and the father of the Railroad Commission. Hebbronville is the county seat.
