After serving his country with honor, Grady McClain returned with a vision of fostering camaraderie, joy, and a sense of belonging through food and music. He and his wife Jewel opened Grady's Drive-In in 1946, beginning the longest continuously running black-owned business in Panama City. What started as a modest endeavor quickly became a community hub where classic hits filled the air and patrons came to dine, dance, and enjoy togetherness. The Gradys' late son, Alvin McClain, later rebranded the popular spot as Alvins 007. Later named Daddy's Place, the drive-in became home to Pepper's Jerk Spot in 2023.
