Marine Corps Air-Ground Museum
Military
At Brown Field on Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia, this museum traced the development and significance of the Marine Air-Ground Team through historic aircraft, vehicles, artillery, and other equipment. It opened on May 6, 1978, as the Marine Corps Aviation Museum, then broadened in scope as its collections grew beyond aviation and was renamed in the mid-1980s. Expanding from two hangars to three in 1990, it came to include fixed-wing airplanes, helicopters, wheeled and tracked vehicles, tanks, artillery pieces, and some foreign equipment such as a Soviet SU-76M self-propelled howitzer. It closed on November 15, 2002, as the National Museum of the Marine Corps was established.
