Apricot cutting sheds were once a common sight in the rural Hollister area, where harvested apricots were cut in half and placed on wood trays to be dried in the sun. The apricot season usually began when school let out for the summer, and many Hollister High School students earned spending money cuttin' cots in sheds like this one. This barn was originally built in the early to mid-1900s by Charles Palmtag on the Palmtag Ranch off Nash Road, rebuilt at a new site by Carl Palmtag in 1947, and used to cut apricots until the 1960s before being used for tractor storage. It was later used to pack fresh vegetables as vegetable production slowly replaced most of the area's apricot orchards, and in 2015 it was donated to the San Benito County Historical Society and moved to the San Benito County Historical Park.
