Byer Covered Bridge is a historic covered road bridge in the community of Byer in southeastern Ohio, carrying State Route 31 over Pigeon Creek in Washington Township, Jackson County, within Wayne National Forest. Built around 1870, it is a single-span wooden bridge using a Smith truss, a 19th-century American timber bridge design. Its covered form protected the wooden framework from weather and helped extend its life. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, it is one of Ohio’s surviving covered bridges and remains significant both as a working historic structure and as a reminder of the region’s earlier transportation routes.
