The Town of Berlin erected this monument in 1920 to honor its patriotic men and women who served their country in time of war, as a tribute for the living, a memory for posterity, and an emblem of loyalty to the flag. It recognizes service in the World War, the Spanish-American War, and the Civil War, and later additions record Berlin residents who served during Operation Desert Storm, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. The monument includes extensive rolls of men and women from Berlin, Connecticut, including nurses, S.A.T.C. members, and American Red Cross workers, and it identifies those remembered in memoriam, those who made the supreme sacrifice, those killed in action, and one listed as missing in action.
