Annie Simcoe created this stitched collage in 2023 using hand-crafted papers made from plants she grew or gathered, including cornhusks, iris leaves, and rye grass. Its vibrant colors come from fabric dyes added during the paper-making process, with each plant fiber taking the dye differently to create unique colors and textures. After the papers dry, she pieces them together and "sketches" on them with her sewing machine. The work was commissioned by the Club to launch an effort to tell the story of women during the Pioneer Era of western Maryland, especially Meshach's wife Mary, whose struggles and strength are mentioned far less than his hunting expeditions in his book.
