Carey’s Mill stood on the Chaplin River near Deep Creek by about 1790 and was associated with Ebenezer P. Carey, who was born in 1761 in Connecticut and died in 1845 in Kentucky. Carey served in the Vermont militia from 1777 to 1780 and fought in the Battles of Fort Anne and Bennington, New York.
