Built about 1860 by Eugene Pillot, a son of early Harris County settler Claude Nicholas Pillot, this house reflected the skills of a builder taught the trade by his father who became outstanding in the Texas coastal area. Its original site, near the Atascosita Trail route, was south of Willow Creek, where General Sam Houston often stopped as a guest. The house was owned by the family of John B. Griffin from 1920 to 1965, and in 1965 Mrs. Ruth Griffin McCourt gave it to the Spring Creek County Historical Association in memory of her father, Edmond B. Griffin.
