Built circa 1860, Gilpin’s Falls Covered Bridge is one of the few covered bridges left in Maryland and the only one on public ground in Cecil County. The area to the east was the site of several mills, including the earliest, Samuel Gilpin’s flour mill, circa 1735. The bridge was restored in 1959 through the joint effort of the State Roads Commission and the Historical Society of Cecil County, led by Fletcher P. Williams, Past President.
