Nathaniel Martin, age 15, and Robert O. Martin, age 12, were fleeing a war party of Sioux Indians when two Indian arrows struck them, one pinning the two boys together. They fell from their horse and were left for dead, but survived. The incident happened approximately 800 feet from this point. The Martinville post office and stage station was located about a half a mile southwest from here. Nathaniel Martin lived from Nov 22, 1848 to May 22, 1928, and Robert O. Martin lived from Dec 17, 1851 to Mar 20, 1899.
