Established in 1810 by Jos. Cooper one block north, Cooper's Ferry was the primary reason St. Stephens Road took this route in 1812 from St. Stephens, Alabama, on the Tombigbee to Natchez. The site also served as a boat landing from 1826 through the early 20th century.
