In 1881, four warehouses stood on a wharf off this point of land at Fayette, where the harbor was full of boats and business was brisk. Vessels such as the steam barge Fayette brought general supplies, machinery, and bricks to Fayette and left with cargoes of charcoal iron. The Jackson Iron Company fleet included two schooners, the steam tugs Rummage and Jo. Harris, and several ore barges.
