Solomon was named for Isadore Elkan Solomon, a pioneer settler who in 1876 burned charcoal here to supply fuel to the Lesinsky Brothers' Copper Smelter near Clifton. He was the first Treasurer of Graham County, an early merchant and postmaster, and one of the founders of the Gila Valley Bank.
