Near the confluence of Bald Eagle Creek and the West Branch Susquehanna River in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, this archaeological site preserves about 8,000 years of stratified prehistoric deposits, spanning every major period from the Middle Archaic to the Late Woodland. Its strongest component is an early Late Woodland Clemson Island culture village dating to roughly 500 to 1000 CE. The setting at converging waterways made it a natural point of repeated Native occupation. Finds include much older squash fragments dated to 5000 to 6000 and about 2600 BP, evidence that people intentionally brought gourds there. Protected by alluvial cover and limited later disturbance, it remains a key record for the region.
