McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center
Bolindale, Ohio
History
In Niles, Ohio, the McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center stands on the site where William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, was born on January 29, 1843. His original modest two-story house was moved twice and destroyed by fire in 1937. The present building is a later reconstruction rather than the original home, created through local and state efforts that advanced in the 1990s and early 2000s. Opened in 2003, it serves as both a memorial and a research center, with a library of McKinley materials, meeting space, a computer lab, and other facilities devoted to his life, career, and era.
