After 1850, a Delaware and Hudson Canal Company boat measured eighty-nine feet long and fourteen and a half feet wide. At the stern, or back end, it had a small cabin about twelve by fourteen feet. At the bow, or front end, the boat could be snubbed to one of three snubbing posts along the east side of the canal bank, spaced a bit farther apart than the length of the boat, so that three boats could be secured there when the nearby lock was not operating.
