Stone Valley Recreation Area in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, near Mooresville, is a seven hundred-acre recreational and educational area operated by Pennsylvania State University along Shaver's Creek. Its modern development began in 1940, when Penn State built roads and buildings there under a federal contract for the university's educational program. The university gained full ownership in 1954, and a dam completed in 1960 helped create the area's present form. Today it serves both public recreation and university use, with hiking, fishing, boating, environmental education, and challenge-course programs. Lake Perez, a central feature, was drained in 2008 after dam regulations changed and refilled in 2014, allowing boating and fishing to resume.
