Housed in Ypsilanti’s former fire station near Depot Town, this museum preserves both Michigan firefighting history and a late nineteenth-century civic building. Built in 1898, the station served the city until 1975 before becoming a private residence and then a museum opened by Howard and Norma Weaver in 1998. A nonprofit since 1999, it expanded in 2002 with a modern addition. Its collections include antique fire trucks, tools, archival materials, interactive fire safety exhibits, a horse-drawn steam fire engine, rare fire grenades, and what it says is the nation’s largest collection of fire truck bells, while also supporting community events and education.
