William and Mary Palmer’s Ann Arbor home, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright after they commissioned him in 1950, is a notable Usonian house near the University of Michigan and Nichols Arboretum. Built into a hillside of red cypress and brick, the 2,000-square-foot residence is organized around triangles rather than right angles, with three wings extending from a central entry for bedrooms, living space and terrace, and a carport. Its long, low roof, Wright-designed furniture in a rear garden house, and long continuous ownership by the Palmer family from 1951 to 2009 make it a strong example of Wright’s total-design approach.
