At Cameron's Depot on August 21, 1864, General Philip H. Sheridan's Federal forces were defeated by General Jubal A. Early, and the fighting swept over the fine old estates of Harewood, Sulgrave, Tuscawillow, Cedar Lawn, and Locust Hill, which were still marked by shot and shell.
