Kingsley Bend Mound Group is a pre-Columbian archaeological site near Wisconsin Dells that preserves a cluster of Native American earthworks, including effigy mounds shaped like a water spirit, a bird, and two bears, as well as linear and conical mounds. Built during the Late Woodland period, roughly between 700 and 1000 A.D., the site belongs to Wisconsin’s distinctive effigy mound-building tradition. In modern times, the property was maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation until 2006, when it passed to the Ho-Chunk Nation. Its significance as a surviving Native earthwork site was recognized by its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
