Rock Creek State Park in central Iowa near Kellogg encompasses 1,697 acres, centered on the 602-acre Rock Creek Lake. Dedicated in 1952, it has long functioned as a major recreation area for both day visitors and overnight guests. The park offers boating access, picnic areas, campgrounds, and trails for hiking and horseback riding, while winter brings cross-country skiing and snowmobiling when the lake freezes. Its setting seven miles west of Grinnell, linked by a bike path, makes it especially popular with Grinnell College students. Fishing is a major attraction, with crappie, bass, channel catfish, bluegill, walleye, and other Iowa freshwater species found in the lake.
