The original old rock courthouse cornerstone was erected in Benjamin in 1891, when the officials of Knox County were W.H. Benedict, T.P. Reeder, J.A. Spinks, G.B. Stewart, and Sheriff T.D. Isbell. The rock structure replaced a wooden courthouse built in 1886 and remained in use until 1935.
