Nalakihu
History
2
Nalakihu, a modern Hopi name meaning "House Outside the Village," was home to farmers about 800 years ago. Roof beams dated by tree rings place it in the late 1100s. The way the walls join shows that this small pueblo was not built all at once but was added onto over time. Roof remains indicate that parts of it were two stories high. Its pottery appears the same as that from the large ruin on the rock ahead, suggesting that the two pueblos may have been occupied at the same time.
