Danevang was settled by pioneers who were honored for meeting adversity and hardship with Christian fellowship, cooperation, and hard work, achieving their goal of a Danish community with a religious and agricultural background. Historical events in the community included the arrival of the first settlers in 1894; the organization of St. Ansgar Congregation, construction of a community house, consecration of a cemetery, establishment of a post office on July 23, arrival of Henningsen as first pastor, birth of the first child on May 16, creation of a public school, and establishment of the first U.S. Weather Station in Wharton County in 1895; organization of Danish Mutual Fire Ins. and construction of a cotton gin in 1897; organization of Danish Ladies Aid and the Galveston Storm in 1900; construction of a parsonage in 1902; laying of the church cornerstone in 1908; dedication of the church on March 28 and a hurricane on July 21 in 1909; arrival of the first automobile in 1911; organization of Danevang Telephone Co in 1913; celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary in 1919; organization of Danevang Farmers Co-Op in 1920; use of the first row crop tractor in 1926; paving of Highway 71 in 1931; hosting of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church Convention in 1935; organization of English Ladies Aid and energizing of rural electric lines in 1939; celebration of the fiftieth anniversary in 1944; destruction of the church by a hurricane in 1945; dedication of a new church on Dec. 14, 1947; consolidation of the school with El Campo in 1951; and organization of the Vol. Fire Dept. in 1953.
