The Log Cabin
Logan, Montana
· This cabin is an excellent example of the pioneer’s construction techniques
History
2
Log cabins were introduced to North America by the Swedes and Germans. Because they were easy to build and made use of readily available materials, they became the most common building on the frontier. This cabin has dovetail notches and cement chinking. Other common notches were the saddle notch and the V-notch. Before cement became available, cabins were chinked with moss, clay, old rags, or newspapers.
