Hamilton County formed in 1823. Noblesville was platted in 1823, selected as the county seat in 1824, and incorporated in 1851. East of the downtown commercial area, the district is bounded by Conner and Logan streets on the east and west and 10th and 17th streets on the north and south. Railroad transportation after 1851 and the discovery of natural gas in 1887 helped the town grow. The district became a significant neighborhood with a mix of structures and styles associated with middle-class and affluent citizens active in the town's business, politics, and civic affairs. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
