Chain O'Lakes State Park in Noble County, Indiana, was created in 1960 after a long regional campaign by northeastern Indiana civic leaders, officials, and supporters, despite opposition tied to competing road plans. Centered on eleven glacial kettle lakes, nine of them connected, the park is defined by boating, protected shorelines, and a landscape of steep rolling hills, bogs, and outwash deposits shaped during the Pleistocene Epoch. It also offers trails, camping, cabins, swimming, and winter recreation. Since 1967, a correctional facility on the park's northeastern edge has contributed work crews that help maintain both Chain O'Lakes and nearby Pokagon State Park.
