Coleman River Scenic Area is a 330-acre protected landscape in the Chattooga River District of Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest, at the meeting of the Coleman and Tallulah rivers about 2,200 feet above sea level. Dedicated in 1960 to “Ranger Nick” Nicholson after 40 years of public service, it preserves the lower Coleman River and a 1-mile trail that follows the water upstream through large old-growth timber. Instead of waterfalls, the river moves through a series of rocky cascades, bordered by native plants including mountain camellia, mountain laurel, and rhododendron.
