More than 400 Madison County Confederates sacrificed much for Southern independence, including Company A of the 16th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, the Madison County Greys, with 159 members; Company D of the 9th Georgia; Company E of the 36th Georgia; Company C of the 16th Georgia; the 3rd Georgia Guard Cavalry; Company G of the 25th Battalion, Georgia Guard; the Madison County Home Guard; and others.
