The Hollywood Walk of Fame began with a concept created in 1953 by Chamber chair E.M. Stuart. Joanne Woodward became the first honoree to pose with a star in 1958, construction started in 1959, and the first star was made for director Stanley Kramer in 1960, when the Walk of Fame was officially dedicated. The first dedication ceremony followed in 1968 for Richard Zanuck. In 1978, the City of Los Angeles designated the Walk of Fame as Historic Cultural Monument #194. Johnny Grant served as Walk of Fame Chair and Honorary Mayor of Hollywood from 1980 to 2008, the Live Theatre category was created in 1984, and Gene Autry became the only celebrity with five stars in 1987. Sophia Loren received the two thousandth star in 1994, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson became the first twins on the Walk of Fame in 2004, and the fiftieth time capsule was buried at Hollywood and Highland in 2010. Jennifer Lopez received the two thousand five hundredth star on 6/20/13, Selena Quintanilla drew a record audience of 4,500 fans at her 2017 dedication, and Anthony Anderson had the first virtual Walk of Fame ceremony at the Hollywood Museum in 2020.
