From division headquarters at this point from August 1917 to May 1918, the training of the Thirty Seventh Division, National Guard troops of Ohio, was directed for service in the World War at Camp Sheridan. A relief map indicated the locations of the division's various units in camp, including headquarters, infantry brigades, infantry regiments, machine gun battalions, field artillery, engineers, signal, sanitary, ammunition, supply, military police, hospitals, bakeries, and supply warehouses. A monument fashioned from native Ohio stone taken from the quarry that supplied material for Ohio’s Historic Statehouse was placed here in Alabama by members of the 37th Division Veterans Association and dedicated to the spirit of unity that animated the people of both states in the hour of impending conflict on November 11, 1931.
