Milwaukee Breakwater Light, built in 1926 at the entrance to Milwaukee harbor, stands near the center of the city’s four-mile Lake Michigan breakwater in some of the lake’s roughest conditions. One of the last fully enclosed breakwater lights on the Great Lakes, it combines an Art Deco keeper’s quarters with a steel tower and lantern built for exceptional durability. Its fourth-order Fresnel lens was transferred from Milwaukee Pierhead Light in 1926 and removed in 1994 for museum display. Still an active navigational aid, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011 and later acquired by Optima Enrichment for future public access.
