Larry Rice lived a life full of accomplishment in auto racing. A two-time starter in the Indianapolis 500, he won Co-Rookie Of The Year honors in 1978. He was twice the USAC Silver Crown Champion in 1977 and 1981. In 1973, he won the USAC National Midget Championship. That achievement, along with his 15 national midget wins, helped lead to his induction into the National Midget Racing Hall of Fame in 1993. Before retiring in 1991, he won every major USAC event, including the 1981 Hoosier Hundred. His popularity extended internationally, and he raced in New Zealand and Australia. After racing, he became a broadcaster, spending twenty years in radio and television and starring with Gary Lee in ESPN’s award winning, “Saturday Night Thunder.” Born in Linden, Indiana, he made Brownsburg his home, and he is best recalled not only for his success but also for his kindness and geniality.
