North Murderkill Hundred was formerly part of Murderkill Hundred, originally called Motherkill Hundred, with kill meaning creek in Dutch. Its original boundaries were Saint Jones Creek on the north and Murderkill Creek on the south, extending from the Delaware River to the Maryland line. In 1867, Murderkill Hundred was divided into two hundreds named North Murderkill Hundred and South Murderkill Hundred.
