Desatoya Peak is the highest mountain in Nevada’s Desatoya Mountains and the highest point in Churchill County, standing on the boundary with Lander County. About 38 miles west of Austin and 55 miles east of Fallon, it has two nearly equal summits, with the south peak slightly higher than the north. By topographic prominence, it ranks forty-third in Nevada. The mountain stands on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management with no access restrictions. Surrounding it are 51,402 acres in the Desatoya Mountains Wilderness Study Area, a protected landscape of ridges, streams, and wildlife habitat supporting species from mountain lion and sage grouse to trout and pika.
