Alburgh Dunes State Park in Alburgh, Vermont, lies on the shore of Lake Champlain and is known for one of the lake’s largest beaches, a broad south-facing stretch of natural sand. Its most notable feature is the dune system near the center and western end of the beach. The park also contains the Charles E. Smith Natural Area, where the state manages a sand dune community to protect and restore rare plants. A bicycle and pedestrian path runs between the dunes and nearby wetlands. The park serves both as a day-use recreation area and as an important protected natural landscape.
