Mohegan State Forest is a protected state forest in eastern Connecticut, centered in Scotland with smaller sections in Sprague and Canterbury. Open for outdoor recreation, especially hiking and hunting, it was established in 1960 with an initial donation of 300 acres. Its history also reflects active forest management: in 1988, a timber harvest produced 200,000 board feet of sawtimber, showing that the land has served as both conserved open space and a working forest. Letterboxing was once offered in the forest, though that activity is no longer active.
