From 1862 to 1864, Captain W.G. O’Brien’s company of mounted volunteers was stationed here as a unit of the Frontier Regiment, which was organized to protect the frontier against Indians. In 1864, the regiment became the Forty-Sixth Texas Cavalry in the Confederate Army.
