The Mayborn Museum Complex at Baylor University in Waco brings together natural science, cultural history, and an outdoor historic village in a facility opened in 2004. It grew from Baylor’s museum collections, which began in 1856 as scientific teaching materials and later became the Strecker Museum, expanded notably by curator John Kern Strecker and long recognized as Texas’s oldest continuously operating museum until its move in 2003. The complex also incorporates a children’s discovery center rooted in 1965 and a historic village donated in 1985. Its exhibits connect prehistoric Central Texas, nineteenth-century life, hands-on learning, and preserved rural buildings from the 1890s.
