DeKalb Countians who served the Confederacy were honored for sacrifices made for the cause of an independent South and for courage and patriotism to the state of Tennessee, and Confederate infantry units raised in DeKalb County included Colm's 1st Battalion, also known as the 20th Tennessee Battalion, Company A and Company C, which became the 50th Consolidated Tennessee Regiment; Company B and Company K of the 7th Tennessee Regiment; Company A of the 16th Tennessee Regiment; Company A and Company G of the 23rd Tennessee Regiment; Company E of the 24th Tennessee Regiment, which became Company C; Company I, which became the 3rd Consolidated Tennessee Regiment; Company F of the 35th Tennessee Regiment, also known as the 1st Tennessee Mountain Rifle Regiment and also known as the 5th Tennessee Regiment; and Company I of the 84th Tennessee Regiment and Company E, which became the 28th Consolidated Tennessee Regiment.
