Edgar Evins State Park is a 6,300-acre Tennessee park on Center Hill Lake, above a flooded stretch of the Caney Fork shaped by steep hills, limestone cliffs, and karst-like terrain. Named for state senator James Edgar Evins, who helped advance Center Hill Dam and Reservoir, the park grew from mid-20th-century reservoir planning and was dedicated in 1975. The surrounding valley had earlier prehistoric surveys, later Euro-American settlement, and land altered or submerged by the lake. Center Hill Dam, authorized in 1938 after repeated destructive floods, made the park possible. Today the park combines lake access, overnight recreation, natural features, and preservation of local history.
