Musgrove Mill in upstate South Carolina preserves the Revolutionary War battlefield where, on August 19, 1780, about 200 Patriot militiamen defeated a larger Loyalist force near the Enoree River by hastily fortifying a ridge with logs and brush and drawing the enemy into an attack. The victory was overshadowed by news of the American defeat at Camden, prompting the Patriots to withdraw. Colonel Isaac Shelby and his Overmountain Men were among the Patriot leaders there, linking the action to the later campaign that led to Kings Mountain. The site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, now combines battlefield interpretation with a preserved riverside landscape.
